European Commission to Delay Anti-Deforestation Law Again

26 September 2025

The European Commission has announced that the entry into force of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which restricts the import of raw materials linked to deforestation, will be postponed for another year. The regulation was initially scheduled for December 2024, then moved to 2025, and a further delay is now expected. The main reason cited is technical difficulties in establishing the key IT system for monitoring and enforcement.

The regulation, approved by the European Parliament in April 2023, prohibits EU market access for products such as coffee, cocoa, beef, soy, and palm oil if they were produced on land where deforestation occurred after 2020. Companies will be required to ensure traceability in their supply chains and demonstrate that their products are not linked to deforestation or human rights violations.
